RIBA CPD Showcase

Sustainable architecture

The following CPD materials fall within the ‘Sustainable Architecture’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
Seminar, by Lindner Group
Provides the specifier with a basic understanding of the functionality of heated and chilled ceilings, as well as chilled beams (active and passive). Learn about the operating efficiency of heated and chilled ceilings and how they can be combined with other systems. The seminar also compares chilled ceilings and fan coil systems with regards to energy consumption and costs.

The Lindner Group is one of Europe’s leading suppliers associated with the building envelope, interior fit-outs (metal, heated and chilled ceilings, floor and partition systems, wall claddings and doors), insulation and construction-related services. Founded in 1965, Lindner values sustainable development and applies future-oriented energy management and environmental protection at all building and production sites.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: 45 minutes.
Seminar, by Dyson
First, learn about poor air quality and pollution across the world – its causes, its effects, and the increasing global media coverage and awareness. Then find out how indoor air quality can actually be worse than outside, and what impact this has on the users of your buildings.

Dyson is a global technology company. Using a desire to make things work better as a catalyst for invention, its team of 3,500 engineers and scientists are passionate about developing technology that solves the problems others often ignore. From the world’s first bagless vacuum cleaner, to hand dryers that use 430mph sheets of air to remove moisture from hands, to a completely re-thought hair dryer with its motor in the handle, Dyson is relentless in its quest to engineer better solutions. Dyson spends £7m a week on research and development and will launch a battery electric vehicle in 2020, into which £2bn is being invested.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: 40 minutes.
Seminar, by Accoya
A seminar on the subject of acetylated wood, which is produced by modifying a softwood using a benign process called acetylation, creating a wood that is highly durable (i.e. rot resistant), stable, and that can outperform hardwoods.

Accoya offers compelling performance and environmental advantages: carbon negativity, enhanced durability, strength, dimensional stability and environmental certification. Accoya is one of the few building products to have acquired cradle-to-cradle SM certification at the elusive C2C Gold Level. Specification of Accoya also yields additional credits for specifiers in LEED v4, BREEAM and Google’s Health Materials Portal, Portico.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: one hour.
Seminar, by LAUDESCHER
Timber systems have a variety of benefits and applications, including improved acoustics and occupant well-being. Find out more about these and the regulatory requirements involved in building projects (using a living material in a normalized frame).

Laudescher is a family-run business, founded in 1965. It is involved in around 500 suspended ceilings, wall cladding and open-work façade system projects throughout Europe each year. The company’s core values revolve around innovation and sustainability.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: 45 minutes.
