Nearly a million people in the UK suffer from some form of dementia, and the number is forecast to grow. Designing safe products and spaces for this vulnerable group is going to become even more important as our population continues to live longer. Explores the effects of ageing and dementia on memory, sight and hearing. Also provides practical guidance and examples of design details that can be a challenge for older people and those living with dementia and accessibility issues, along with effective design alternatives.

Practical guidance on how to incorporate dementia design principles into a project or space, from inception to handover and use. Using a mixture of theory and practice, this program identifies key design considerations in support of those diagnosed with dementia and/or suffering from cognitive impairment. A variety of learning and delivery channels are available, including lectures, workshops and discussion groups.

The Dementia Services Development Centre, Stirling’s CPD program has been developed to cover a range of design subjects, including new build and renovation projects. It’s the ideal introduction to issues relating to the effective commissioning, project management and designing of internal and external environments, including lighting.
