Weight has a major impact on the use of energy and sustainable use of materials at all stages of the construction process. This is a complex problem. As an industry, we need to adjust our thinking and be open-minded to new, innovative, lightweight solutions as part of the drive towards reducing carbon. It also means using materials that form part of the circular economy. Lightweight materials have impacted the evolution of our built environment and will continue to do so. This seminar compares common surface finishes and asks questions about our current specification choices, set against the legislative, maintenance and technical constraints within which we must all operate.
