The following CPD materials fall within the ‘Being safe – health and safety’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
Seminar, by Pyroguard UK Ltd
This seminar provides an insight into the characteristics and benefits of fire resistant glass, as well as important considerations when specifying a completed glazing system, including framing and glazing media. The presentation also includes information on testing standards and test videos, compliance with Building Regulations, and aesthetics. Case studies are used to highlight the different types of glazing applications in which fire glass may be included. Although fire resistant glazing is a requirement, aesthetically-pleasing design need not be compromised.

Seminar, by Lorient
Between 2007 and 2011 there were 233 prosecutions in England and Wales under the RRO, ranging from large companies to small family-run businesses. The RRO shifts the blame to the ‘responsible person’ of that building, meaning anyone can be prosecuted under the act for lack of fire safety. This CPD seminar includes: a quick introduction to the RRO and who is responsible for a building’s fire safety; examples of companies that have come under fire from the RRO; the dangers of fire and smoke; the importance of fire doors, including their installation and maintenance, and; examples of poorly maintained and fitted fire doors, and cost effective alternatives.
