Hospital are noisy spaces, this seminar looks at the effect of sound on people in hospital and design solutions to solve acoustic challenges. It will help you to understand the following topics:
- Understand the sources of noise in hospital, how noise travels, how noise levels are experienced and the benefits of changing the sound environment
- Understand the effect of noise on patients and their recovery, with emphasis on vulnerable patient groups
- Understand the effect of noise on staff and their ability to carry out tasks in a noisy environment
- Understand what activity based acoustic design is and how it can be applied to hospitals
- Understand the UK acoustic standard for hospitals, Health Technical Memorandum HTM 08:01 and classes of sound absorption to standard EN ISO 11654
