Saint-Gobain Ecophon

Ecophon is part of the Saint-Gobain Group, a global supplier of acoustic ceiling, wall panel systems and screens that contribute to good room acoustics and support a healthy indoor environment, with a focus on offices, education, healthcare, retail and industrial manufacturing premises. Ecophon’s efforts are guided by a vision of earning global leadership in room acoustic comfort through the design and manufacture of sound-absorbing systems that enhance end users’ performance and wellbeing. Ecophon maintains an on-going dialogue with government agencies, organisations and research institutes, and is involved in formulating national standards in the field of room acoustics. Ecophon is actively committed to sustainability and uses glass wool based on more than 70% recycled glass, and without fossil raw materials. Only water-based paints made from safe materials are used, and the products have no added antimicrobial chemicals or formaldehyde. Recycling of all new products By converting to the plant-based binder in every single product, sustainability functional features are vastly upgraded. 24,000 barrels of crude oil are no longer used, reducing emissions accordingly, and making it possible for Ecophon to introduce recycling of all products with the new wool.

Acoustics For Futher and Higher Education
This seminar is concerned with the biology of hearing, the negative effects of low frequency sound on learning and solutions to meet standards for acoustics in further and higher education buildings. It will help you to understand the following topics:
- Understand how we hear and the consequences of damaging our hearing in a noisy or reverberant environment
- Understand the importance of frequencies to speech intelligibility
- Understand the relevant acoustic standards and why they matter, even if they are not currently mandatory
- Understand Building Bulletin 93, how it applies to different spaces within a university and a summary of the changes focusing on the impact to higher education
- Understand design solutions to comply with Building Bulletin 93 especially relating to lecture theatres, atria, open plan offices and sports halls

General Awareness
Material type: Seminar
Acoustics for SEN Teaching
This seminar looks at the relevant acoustic standards for Special Education Needs (SEN) teaching. It provides a summary of the changes to Department for Education document BB93: Acoustic Design for Schools, focusing on SEN room acoustics. It will help you to understand the following topics:
- Understand how we hear,
- Understand the impact of noisy or reverberant environments, low frequency sound and its negative effects on learning
- Understand what are the relevant acoustic standards for schools and how BB93 applies to different spaces within a school
- Understand design solutions to meet the new standard
Material type: Seminar
Psychoacoustics in the Workplace
This presentation looks in depth at the subject of psychoacoustics and how human beings process auditory information, both psychologically and physiologically, in the context of an office setting. With an emphasis on health, well-being and performance, the subject matter also addresses the importance of acoustic biophilia in design and human responses to nature and the sounds of nature. It will help you to understand the following topics:
- Understand how human beings perceive sound psychologically and physiologically in an office setting
- Understand why we perceive differently and why this is important to consider when designing office spaces
- Understand the implications of recent research explaining perceptions of office acoustics
- Understand how to identify different psychological and physiological auditory factors in the workplace
- Understand the importance of biophilia, both in general and from the acoustic perspective, and ways to include elements in design
- Understand the importance of good acoustics and how to apply practical solutions for psychoacoustics in office design
Knowledge level:
General Awareness
Material type: Seminar
Acoustic Design for International Projects
This presentation looks at basic acoustics before going into more detail about international standards and how they compare and relate to each other. It will help you to understand the following topics:
- Understand the need for good acoustic design
- Understand international and national acoustic standards
- Understand key acoustic measurements
- Understand international trends for good acoustic design in office, health and education environments
Knowledge level:

Impact of Acoustics on Hospital Care and Recovery
Hospital are noisy spaces, this seminar looks at the effect of sound on people in hospital and design solutions to solve acoustic challenges. It will help you to understand the following topics:
- Understand the sources of noise in hospital, how noise travels, how noise levels are experienced and the benefits of changing the sound environment
- Understand the effect of noise on patients and their recovery, with emphasis on vulnerable patient groups
- Understand the effect of noise on staff and their ability to carry out tasks in a noisy environment
- Understand what activity based acoustic design is and how it can be applied to hospitals
- Understand the UK acoustic standard for hospitals, Health Technical Memorandum HTM 08:01 and classes of sound absorption to standard EN ISO 11654

Integrated Solutions for learning Habitats
This CPD material will help delegates to design built educational environments that:
- Are comfortable for people to inhabit, whether they be pupils, adult learners, teachers or others
- Are energy efficient by having a high thermal performance giving low running costs for the building
- Protect occupants from internal and external noise - to aid thinking, communicating and therefore learning
- Are safe and secure to occupy, complying with all relevant areas of building regulations
- Have maximum natural light ingress to aid vision, concentration and therefore learning
- Have minimal impact on the environment by using resource efficient materials and processes
Material type: Seminar
Acoustics in Clean Industry - High Care Environments
This seminar provides:
- A general overview of sound levels and how our ears work
- A look at the noise levels in different clean industry environments
- Reference to studies which show noise reduction achievable
- A look at the effects of reduced noise level on health & safety, well-being and productivity
- Technical information on products which is required for these environments
