Hospital are noisy spaces; this seminar looks at the effect of sound on people in hospital and design solutions to solve acoustic challenges. It will help you to understand the following topics:

• The sources of noise in hospital, how noise travels, how noise levels are experienced and the benefits of changing the sound environment
• The effect of noise on patients and their recovery, with emphasis on vulnerable patient groups
• The effect of noise on staff and their ability to carry out tasks in a noisy environment
• What activity based acoustic design is and how it can be applied to hospitals
• The UK acoustic standard for hospitals, Health Technical Memorandum HTM 08:01 and classes of sound absorption to standard EN ISO 11654.
