Seminar
The New Synthetics
In this seminar, I will explore the rise of synthetic fabrics in the twentieth century and those in particular that are currently being manufactured on a large commercial scale.

As we grow increasingly aware of the limited natural resources available, there is a growing urgency to replace those resources with more sustainable alternatives.

What those alternatives are will be examined in this seminar and help to determine if synthetics truly have a place in the future and whether they can replace the synthetics in large-scale production today.

Seminar
Contract Fabrics and Enviromental Sustainability
This seminar explores how contract fabrics might be made more sustainable through the replacement or removal of certain added chemicals. Alternatives to high-volume commercially produced fabric are explored. Future directions are appraised - especially those based on naturally occurring phenomena. New innovations in fabric production are also identified and explored. By the end of the CPD you will have a greater understanding of:
- What is meant by added chemistry and what possible substitutes are available.
- What makes a contract fabric
- How to distinguish between harmful and beneficial added chemistry
- What fabrics are best from a sustainable viewpoint
- Future directions in biomimicry and fabric design
