Velfac Windows

Overview

VELFAC are experts in windows and can provide tailored advice and consultancy at every specification stage – from initial design ideas through to post-installation support. Talk to VELFAC as soon as your project starts to take shape, and use their product knowledge, and their industry expertise to specify glazing which meets your budget needs, design vision and performance targets. VELFAC composite windows bring together the best of both worlds; the durability and versatility of aluminium and the beauty and warmth of natural wood. The wood frame contributes to great energy performance with U-values as low as 0.8W/m²K, and the slim 54 mm sightlines maximise natural light. Opening and fixed lights have the same sightlines, providing a consistent aesthetic across window units. • Composite windows • Secured by Design certification • FSC certification • RIBA approved CPD

Seminar
The Long Game - Indoor climate and sustainable design.
This seminar provides an overview of sustainable design and explores how early engagement helps architects and designers achieve their sustainability goals when specifying a window system. We aim to provide a detailed understanding of sustainability trends in the construction industry, the key drivers for change, and how manufacturers can support architects and designers by being transparent with all relevant data related to their products' sustainability credentials. Covering topics such as Operational Carbon, Embodied Carbon, Passivhaus, SBTIs, Indoor Climate, and EPDs.

This CPD aims to:
1. Provide an introduction to DOVISTA UK – The home of VELFAC and Rationel.
2. Provide an understanding of the importance of sustainability in the construction industry.
3. Identify the industry drivers for change.
4. Provide an understanding of how sustainability has a direct impact on indoor climate.
5. Provide recognition of the data available and how manufacturers can help.

By the end of this CPD seminar, delegates ought to know:

1. Why there is increasing focus on sustainable materials and practices.
2. How to achieve your sustainability targets and accomplish a good indoor climate.
3. Transparent sustainability reporting. To know what data is available and where to access it.
4. The suppliers' responsibilities for design and compliance with building regulations.
5. The importance of early engagement between Architect, Contractor and Suppliers.

Seminar
Design, Detail and Installation
This seminar aims to cover design, detailing and installation and provide an understanding of how windows interface with the different construction methods and build-ups commonly used. It discusses how build sequence can affect the design, installation and sealing methodologies used, and how manufacturers can assist from early stage guidance and support through to provision of full interface details used for successful installation. It will help you to understand the following topic
- The different methods of wall construction and how windows are typically detailed for installation
- The importance of weathertight sealants, and the materials available
- The impact sequence of build, and sequence of window installation can have on interface detailing and the overall build
- The suppliers’ responsibilities regarding design and compliance to building regulations
- Installation methodologies, and protection available during the build program

Article
This article looks at the frame materials available within the window industry; uPVC, aluminium, timber and composite aluminium/timber are reviewed together with their impact on the environment, energy consumption during the manufacturing processes and the overall lifecycle of each material from cradle to grave. The expected durability and maintenance requirements of each material along with the economic benefits are also considered.

Window specification can be complex, we need to consider the levels of light required in a room, the need to create a safe and secure environment, all whilst protecting against the Earth’s natural elements and other man-made factors such as noise and pollution. This article looks at thermal performance, solar control and acoustic performance. It will also identify how we finalise the specification of a window system, considering Building Regulations but also the additional requirements of third parties such as M&E consultants, acousticians or employers requirements, all of which can influence the overall design and cost of your building

360 Degrees Window Consultancy and Specification Building
This seminar aims to cover the consultancy process to promote the benefits of early engagement with suppliers to assist with the design and development of projects. It aims to provide an understanding of how different project specific requirements can affect the design and specification of a building. It discusses how manufacturers can assist throughout the whole process of a project, from initial preliminary design works through to completion and final handover on site. Covering topics such as energy and indoor climate, acoustics, performance, sustainability, BIM, design and installation and detailing. It will help you to understand the following topics:
- How different specification requirements can have an impact on the materials chosen and the design of the building
- The suppliers’ responsibilities regarding compliance to Building Regulations
- The nature and scope of window specifications
- The benefits of early engagement with suppliers
