Description

This CPD provides an introduction to Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) and their role in supporting informed, sustainable specification decisions within the built environment. Attendees will gain an understanding of what an EPD is, how EPDs are developed in accordance with recognised standards, and how they communicate the environmental impacts of construction products throughout their life cycle.

The presentation explores key life cycle assessment (LCA) principles, the structure and interpretation of EPD data, and the importance of product transparency in meeting sustainability objectives. Participants will learn how to compare EPD information effectively, understand the limitations of EPDs, and recognise their application within UK construction projects, sustainability assessments, and evolving legislative and industry requirements.

By the end of the CPD, delegates will be able to:

  • Understand the purpose and principles of Environmental Product Declarations.
  • Interpret the key information contained within an EPD.
  • Recognise the relationship between EPDs, Life Cycle Assessment (LCA), and whole-life carbon assessment.
  • Use EPD data to support informed specification decisions.
  • Appreciate the role of product transparency in delivering more sustainable buildings.

This CPD is suitable for architects, specifiers, designers, and construction professionals seeking to improve their understanding of environmental product data and its practical application within the specification process.
