This CPD explores the principles of sustainable timber repair and maintenance within heritage and traditionally constructed buildings. It examines how responsible repair strategies can help retain original fabric, reduce embodied carbon, minimise waste and extend the service life of timber joinery.
Delegates will gain an understanding of the environmental, technical and conservation considerations involved in repair versus replacement decisions, including the role of maintenance, moisture management, material selection and whole-life thinking. The session also explores current sustainability drivers, circular economy principles and best practice approaches to preserving historic timber elements whilst meeting modern performance expectations.
By the end of the CPD, delegates will be able to make more informed decisions regarding the sustainable repair, maintenance and long-term stewardship of timber joinery in both heritage and existing buildings.
