Management of Moisture in Buildings - Pitched Roof Designs

Face to Face Seminar
Legal, regulatory and statutory compliance, Design, construction and technology
cpd

Description

The focus of this CPD is to provide practical, technically sound guidance on management of moisture in buildings in pitched roofs, looking not just at compliance, but how roofs actually perform in practice.

This CPD is about bridging the gap between compliance and performance.

Many roof designs meet regulatory requirements on paper but still encounter condensation-related issues once built.

We will look at how and why that happens, focusing on the key mechanisms that drive moisture movement in pitched roofs.

We will cover the role of ventilation, underlays, and airtightness, and how these elements interact within the overall build-up.

The objective:

  • Identify the key condensation risk points in modern pitched roof designs
  • Apply BS 5250:2021 correctly to cold, warm, and complex roof structures
  • Evaluate when roof coverings should be treated as air permeable or impermeable
  • Understand how in-roof solar and airtightness strategies change ventilation design
  • Reduce the risk of post-completion condensation claims and warranty issues
