This webinar provides a thorough overview of the types of dampness found in existing properties with a particular emphasis on the three most common forms of dampness (condensation, penetrating damp and rising damp), which can all lead to damage to the structure and it's decorative finishes, and to the formation of mould and potential health issues for occupants and users of the building.
It also explores the relationship between condensation, rising damp and penetrating damp and the importance of the correct identification and remediation of all vectors for moisture ingress into the building.
The benefits and drawbacks of different remedial treatment methods are discussed in detail.
The presentation looks at methods of diagnosis, causes, and a wide variety of treatments for these forms of dampness.
By the end of the CPD you will have:
- An understanding of how to identify the different types of dampness commonly encountered in buildings
- An understanding of what dampness is and why it is a problem
- An understanding of the main causes of dampness
- An understanding of how to differentiate between the different forms of dampness
- An understanding of the problems that can be caused if dampness is not investigated and remediated
- An understanding of the advantages and disadvantages of different treatment strategies
PLEASE NOTE: This presentation only explores dampness in buildings above ground. Dampness and moisture penetration in structures below ground is covered in our separate CPD entitled: 'Structural waterproofing of basements and underground structures in both newbuild and refurbishment projects'
