Building conservation and heritage

The following RIBA-approved CPD materials fall within the RIBA core curriculum topic ‘Building conservation and heritage’ (and may fall within other core curriculum topics as well). This covers the legislative framework and principles of conservation practice. It also includes having the right knowledge, skills and techniques, or access to the right specialists, to work on conservation (repair and maintenance) projects and historic or listed buildings and places.
Concrete technology proliferated in post-war Europe as engineers and architects began producing ground-breaking building designs and civil structures with structural concrete. This webinar discusses the history and development of 20th century concrete technology, and includes case studies that demonstrate a range of repair and conservation approaches.

A brief introduction to bricks, including their history, methods of manufacture and technical characteristics – allowing the specifier to select the right brick for the correct application. Topics covered include: the heritage and longevity of clay facing bricks; how to identify brick types by their manufacturing method; and, how to select bricks based on the geography and topography of a site.
