Welsh Slate Ltd

Overview

Welsh Slate is the world’s leading supplier of high-quality slate for a peerless range of exterior and interior design applications. Uniquely 500 million years old, the material is widely recognised as the finest natural slate in the world. The inherent beauty and qualities of slate have resulted in its specification and use by architects, interior designers, developers and contractors for roofing, cladding, flooring, paving, walling, sills and copings, landscaping, aggregates, fire surrounds and hearths, worktops and counters, and sawn scants. The material, which features a green veining unique to the area, is also used for house signs, memorials and for Slateware - a range of beautiful slate tableware championed by two Michelin-starred chef Michael Caines. The company’s Penrhyn Quarry has been the centre for UK natural stone and its heritage since the 13th Century and a major operation for more than 400 years. In recent decades new sources of roofing slate have been imported into the UK from all over the world but none has come even close to matching the appearance and performance of Welsh slate. Indeed Welsh Slate has been exporting to the known world since shipping began and its export markets continue to grow.
