This CPD seminar aims to inform architects about the international voluntary quality label known as Qualicoat, and to explain the benefits of the research and development undertaken by its members on behalf of the wider industry. The powder coat process is explained, as well as the growth in premium powder formulations now being specified on high rise and prestigious projects across the UK and Ireland.

Qualicoat is a global quality label organisation committed to maintaining and promoting the quality of lacquering, painting and coating on aluminium and its alloys for architectural applications. To determine whether or not a coating meets a customer's requirements, the results need to be measurable against technical specifications. On behalf of customers who have products coated, Qualicoat defines comprehensive quality requirements and monitors their compliance by licensed plants worldwide. As a result, purchasers of coated aluminium receive a premium-grade product delivering long-term value with good quality.

This seminar revisits the fundamentals of heat transfer, insulation properties, U-value calculations and condensation risk. It highlights the basic principles of specifying insulation and its position within the construction relative to vapour control layers and breather membranes, to ensure that buildings perform as efficiently as intended. Ultimately, it will help the architect to design, specify and build with confidence.
