Seminar, by Secured by Design
This seminar aims to bring together the principles of designing out crime, effective crime prevention and security standards, for a range of applications and products. It provides an introduction to Secured by Design and its application to residential developments, including: how design can reduce the opportunity for crime; the role of the Crime Prevention Design Advisor and when to contact them; legislation and directives relating to crime prevention in the built environment, and their implications for architects; and police-preferred specification.

Secured by Design is a not-for-profit organisation that focuses on crime prevention in relation to homes and commercial premises, and that promotes the use of security standards for a wide range of applications and products. These principles have been proven to achieve a reduction in crime risk of up to 75 percent, by combining minimum standards of physical security and well-tested principles of natural surveillance and defensible space.

There has been a significant rise in the popularity of hard and soft landscaped podiums, roofs, terraces and balconies integrated into residential and mixed-use developments. The challenge is how to protect the building successfully when burying the all-important waterproofing. This seminar explains how to evaluate hot melt systems, and how to ensure best performance from this robust waterproofing solution.

Alumasc supplies high performance waterproofing and green roof systems. These BBA-certified roofing solutions are backed by project-specific specification support, are installed by Alumasc-registered contractors and are available with extended warranties. Part of the range is the Hydrotech hot-melt system, a lightweight yet tough, flexible self-healing monolithic membrane with guaranteed 100% bond to a properly prepared concrete substrate.
