RIBA CPD Showcase

Design, construction and technology

The following RIBA-approved CPD materials fall within the ‘Design, construction and technology’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic. Many seminars are now available online using Zoom, GoToMeeting, and Microsoft Teams etc. This is not always shown here so, if a seminar is of interest to you, do click on the link and check.
Type A waterproofing is defined by British Standard 8102:2022 as a ‘barrier protection’ that is applied to either the internal or external surface of a structure in order to resist the pressure of water trying to enter the building. This seminar therefore explores key considerations when specifying and installing Type A waterproofing. Topics covered include: the principles of the British Standard and how the new BS 8102:2022 standard differs from the old; how Type A membranes work and how they have evolved and improved; an overview of post- and pre-applied external membranes and internal Type A membranes; and, the importance of detailing and specialist application.

Seminar, by Aliaxis
Siphonic rainwater systems offer significant benefits to specifiers as they require less space within a building, reduced labour to install, and smaller diameter pipework to drain the roof faster than a conventional system would. This presentation explains the principles of siphonic design and how it compares with gravity systems, as well as how to reduce building costs associated with roof drainage.
