RIBA Core Curriculum: Designing & building it

The following CPD materials fall within the ‘Designing and building it – structural design, construction, technology and engineering’ RIBA Core Curriculum topic area.
When building with ICF (Insulated Concrete Formwork), low energy architecture doesn’t have to equate to design limitations. This CPD seminar answers the question, “What is Insulated Concrete Formwork?” before covering the different types of ICF and their benefits, design capabilities, building types and applications, the construction process, regulations and standards, sustainable advantages (BREEAM/CSH/LEED) and useful design resources, including BIM. It also includes a case study featuring an award-winning project.

NUDURA’s unique ICF technology creates limitless possibilities for designing low-energy buildings, speeds up the construction process and reduces waste. NUDURA is a global leader in the design and manufacture of ICF products for residential, commercial, municipal buildings and many other structure types that need minimal maintenance and that may benefit from improved indoor air quality.

Approximate duration excluding time for questions/answers: 40 minutes
This CPD seminar highlights the benefits of adopting a holistic approach to the design of learning habitats. It presents evidence to show how an environment with appropriate levels of audio, visual, thermal and air quality comfort will achieve better learning outcomes for students, and details the parameters needed to deliver such a learning habitat.

Saint-Gobain is a world leader in sustainable habitat solutions, with a presence in more than 60 countries, 194,000 employees, and an annual turnover of more than £31bn. Saint-Gobain in the UK owns some of the leading brands in sustainable construction, including British Gypsum, Celotex, Saint-Gobain Glassolutions and Jewson.
