Fire Standards in the UK
This CPD seeks to describe to the audience the relevant standards and regulations in the UK regarding fire. This includes Approved Document B, BS476, EN13501, BS8414, Insurance Standards LSP1181 and Factory Mutual, and up to date commentary on BS9414 and BR135. The delegate should be left with basic knowledge of what the relevant standards and classifications mean, enabling them to avoid incorrect specification or misinterpretation of regulations. By the end of the CPD the delegate should have a greater understanding of:
- Building Regulation Approved Document B and its section B3 and B4
- BS476 and its relevant sections, specifically parts 6,7,11 and 22
- BS EN 13501-1, the definition of combustibility and its relevance
- BS8414 and its relevance
- The changes to building regulations, the impact on designers and the relevance of competence

This presentation is intended to give the delegate a basic understanding of metal cladding and roofing systems and the principle design characteristics to consider when selecting and specifying a product. It is intended to cover, in brief, considerations such as Fire, Acoustics, Non-Fragility, Sustainability and in-use long term issues such as guarantees and maintenance. By the end of the CPD the delegate should have a greater understanding of:
- Metal cladding and roofing systems and their relative features and benefits
- Technical design considerations such as Fire, Sustainability, Acoustics and Daylighting
- The relevance of considerations such as non-fragility, guarantee and maintenance issues
- The selection criteria that should be considered when choosing a solution, product and supplier
- The principle suppliers to the market and the relevance of understanding design issues
