Acoustic Performance of Pre-finished Steel Cladding Systems
Pre-finished steel cladding systems can form the basis of an acoustically high-performance building envelope. The actual requirements will be building-specific, but where improvements are needed over the standard systems there are some simple guidelines that can be followed. The guidance given here will help building designers to achieve the optimum acoustic performance from their building envelopes.

Creating an Air Tight Building Envelope - Technical Paper
This technical paper provides guidance on the factors which affect the building envelope heat losses and quantify the typical air-tightness performance of metal cladding joints. This information can then be used when specifying the design requirements of a project to achieve Part L compliance.

End of Life Options for Pre-finished Steel Buildings -Technical Paper
The sustainability of a building in terms of its material usage, construction, occupation and end of life is becoming an increasing concern. This colorcoat® technical paper, produced with the SCI, looks at the various end-of-life options for the building envelope.

Factory Visit
Factory tour: Pre-finished Steel and the Manufacturing Process
The main aim of the factory tour is to show the audience the methods used to both galvanise and paint steel. Architects often believe that the profiles/panels are painted when they are profiled. They do not realise the complex nature of the galvanising/coating process required to ensure a product lifespan of up to 30 years.

In Plane Rooflights for Low Energy Buildings
For the first time this paper looks at the various impacts of introducing natural light into single storey buildings. Adopting the principles laid out here will help building designers to optimise their design with respect to the availablility of natural light, avoiding overheating and minimising energy usage.

Seminar
Pre-Finished Steel for Standing Seam Roofs and How It Contributes to The Code for Sustainable Homes
This seminar will:
- Provide specifiers, building owners and clients with a comprehensive understanding of the benefits for using pre-finished steel for standing seam roofs
- Offer architects an alternative method in their quest to achieve higher levels in the Code for Sustainable Homes
- Highlight the sustainable attributes of pre-finished steel roof and wall cladding systems
- Explain how its specification can contribute to achieving a good overall rating in the Code for Sustainable Homes

Seminar
Steel for Roofing and Cladding
This seminar aims to help architects understand the role of pre-painted metals, how they are manufactured and the choices in aesthetics and functionality. This will enable the architect to complete their specifications in more detail whilst giving them more choice.

Seminar
Refurbishment Solutions for Metal Roofing and Cladding
This seminar aims to provide a greater understanding of how the regulations and systems can affect a refurbishment project and how the choice of system can influence the functionality and aesthetics of the final scheme. It also deals with the thought process and design considerations.

Seminar
Sustainable Refurbishment Solutions for Non Domestic Buildings
This seminar covers all aspects of the refurbishment of non-domestic buildings, mainly industrial and commercial properties. The aim is to give the delegate an understanding of the reasons why refurbishment is normally undertaken and why it can be a preferred option to new build in some circumstances.

Structural Performance of Built up Roof and Wall Cladding Systems - Technical Paper
This technical paper aims to give the specifier a good understanding of what structual performance should be expected of a cladding system. It addresses the structural aspects of the specification of a built up cladding system and considers the necessary load paths in the cladding design. Architects and specifiers will have a clear understanding of the behaviour of individual components and the interaction between them.

Seminar
Sustainable Roof and Wall Cladding: Built-up Steel Systems
Built-up steel cladding systems provide a modern, sustainable solution for the building envelope of many buildings. This CPD introduces these systems and the results which can be achieved with them. The CPD provides a background to assessing the sustainability of building components, then shows how built-up steel cladding systems meet the various criteria of sustsinability. There is an emphasis on the contribution that these building envelope solutions can make to reducing the whole-life impact of construction, including not only emboided impacts, but the in-use phase and the practicalities of dealing with construction materials at end-of-life

The Importance of Air Tightness in Non-Domestic Buildings
This seminar demonstrates where the air-leakage paths in a steel building envelope are, and shows that when correctly specified and installed, both built-up and composite systems can help meet the requirements of ADL2A (2006). This CPD includes:
- The impact of air-tightness and its importance when demonstrating compliance
- Guidance on the use of pre-finished steel in the building envelope and how the various systems perform

Part L: 2010/2013: the Role of the Building Envelope in Compliance for Buildings other than Dwellings
Approved Document L has been revised with effect from October 2010. This CPD introduces these changes and how the performance of buildings is assessed. The CPD then assesses the effect of changing different elements of the building envelope on the building CO2 emissions and then introduces alternatives to the 2010 Notional Building. Building integrated low/zero carbon energy systems which are most suitbale for use with pre-finished steel are explained and how they are included into SBEM claculations. A preview of what Part L will look like later in 2013 is also provided.

Seminar
Sustainable Low Carbon Buildings
The CPD covers the aspects of embodied and operation energy for a range of building types and how these can be reduced. The most sustainable renewable energy systems for integration and pre-finished steel building envelopes are explained. The BREEAM assessment is outlined and how pre-finished steel can be specified to maximise BREEAM ratings. A cost effective hierarchy of building enhancements is proposed.

- An introduction to the drivers for renewable energy
- Key performance factors of transpired solar collectors (active solar air heating)
- Performance factors for building mounted PV systems
- The structural implications of installing these systems
- Indicative performance and system costs/payback.
